"Strange things happen when you're in debt. Two weeks ago my car broke down and my phone got disconnected. I was one electric bill away from being Amish."
- Comedian Tom Ryan

So who is the Prince of Thrift? He is average Joe, like you. He freely admits that he has made a number of bad decisions financially. In 2006, he started the blog DebtFree4ever.NET to discuss in an open forum about his struggles. His goal was to try to learn from his own mistakes and to discuss what the financial gurus teach. In so doing, he hoped that others could learn from his mistakes to, so that they didn't repeat them. He in no way, whatsoever, wants to misrepresent himself as any kind of financial counselor or coach. He simply doesn't have the degrees for that.
He has spent 18 plus years working at various levels in the retail grocery business. In addition, he spent two (2) years in full time ministry. Along the way, he has also dabbled in writing, politics and acting/modeling.

Over the past few weeks, there has been much debate about raising the debt ceiling. I have planned to write this letter many times, but I kept putting it off. It is time to stop procrastinating and voice my thoughts.
It is time to get real. It is time for Congress to start living like the American citizens it serves and learn that you cannot pay debt by borrowing more. Doing so only digs the hole deeper. This is something I teach the students I teach through my Wisdom Steps 101 (Managing Finances According to the Bible) lessons.
Here are the simple cold hard facts. It is going to be extremely difficult, but we as a nation must find a way to start living within the financial means we have. If we do not do it now then we will have to do it at a later date and then it will be harder to make the necessary cuts.
As hard as it is going to be, we must do it. That is the cold hard facts. Time for our political leaders to get a backbone and make the hard decisions.
